Meet Nelle. She is a living schoolroom of everything you need to know to thrive on your own homestead. Each month you will learn a different hands-on homestead experience.
Raising Chickens
and a Make-and-Take for the Flock.
Come and get advice from Nelle about raising your own little flock and meet Henrietta, one of many Bantam chickens in Nelle's flock. Learn why you should raise chickens and what types of chickens you should choose. Nelle will guide you on choosing the right breeds, what to feed them, how to house them, how to keep them healthy and safe. She will talk about what chickens she chose and why.
Participants will each make a DIY Feed-the-flock Block. It's basically like a suet cake for chickens. It contains chicken scratch grain, other goodies, and a solid oil, like coconut oil or suet.
If you don't have chickens yet, you can give it away or feed it to backyard birds. If you are getting chickens soon, you can save it in the freezer.
Advance Registration with Payment Required by April 21st.
Fee: $5 includes materials
