Do you sometimes just watch or listen to the birds as you walk through your neighborhood or local park? Do have a bird feeder? Have you ever wondered whether there might be something to this “birding” thing, whatever it is exactly? If so, you have plenty of company: the past two years have seen a remarkable increase in the popularity of birding nationwide, especially among families looking for activities to enjoy together. In this presentation, we will explore what birding is, why you might be interested in it, and how you can get started. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary – but beware, you might find yourself wanting to be a birder!
Bill Heck started birding about forty years ago and has never looked back. He has traveled to exotic locations worldwide to find new (for him) birds, but still enjoys strolling along pathways in our superb regional park systems, just looking at and listening to nature’s wonders – especially the ones with wings. Now retired from a career in IT, he volunteers with organizations involved in bird conservation, most recently as a six-year member of the board of the National Audubon Society and presently on the Board of the Grange Insurance Audubon Center in Columbus. He has given dozens of presentations on birding and nature-related topics across Ohio and beyond.
